Product Description

Unused new old stock blades!

During the American western expansion the nature of the vegetation being mowed changed. Gone were the gentle east coast meadows that had been groomed and mowed for generations, and hardier, more wild growth presented itself instead. The long, thin New England and Yankee pattern blades used in those settings were no longer sufficient for the greater variety of this region, and western weight blades were produced to match those conditions. Wider, heavier, and with a flared heel, these blades will carry smoothly through the weedy mix of vegetation found in neglected and overgrown spaces without being slowed down by the short length of a conventional weed blade. If you have a lot of thatch and interspersed weeds to contend with over larger spaces than can be suitably tackled by a weed blade, these are the blades for you!

Made in 1960 by the North Wayne Tool Co., with a flat black painted finish, polished points and their famous "Monitor Heel", a groove extending into the shank of the tang to provide extra rigidity without adding weight, these blades were made less than a decade before the company's closure in 1969.

Measurements below are taken from the blade shown in the image, and the one you receive will vary, but be of similar style.

Length: 27-1/2"

Weight: 2lb 2.1oz

Width Across Center: 2-1/4"

If selecting the "Ground and Honed" option the edge will be made fully ready to mow. A light burr will be present from grinding and polishing of the edge that will come off in the first few honing sessions during use.

If selecting the "Angle Adjusted" option we will heat and bend the tang by approximately 10 to lower the lay of the blade in use. For users of average height this will bring the lay of the blade low enough for acceptable lawn use and other close-cropped mowing if used on a Seymour No.8 aluminum snath. If mowing in very rough terrain, cutting lots of challenging growth, or of shorter stature we suggest omitting this option. If of above-average height or being paired with a snath of lesser curvature than the No.8 snath a stronger angle may be desired. If you would like a greater angle than the default 10, please write us at sales@baryonyxknife.com to discuss your requirements or include them in the comments field of your order!
