A good sturdy weed blade of unknown provenance. This example is of good balance and curvature with a very robust tang for hard work. No markings are to be seen, save for a small "48" on the tang. The steel is of extremely high carbon content to the point at which the freshly exposed steel would begin to oxidize while the edge was being wet-ground, and the heat treatment is nice and firm.
The tang has been induction spot-heated and set to a shallow 12.5° angle to give good adaptability while mowing variegated targets and on uneven ground. The blade has been given a full electrolytic rust removal treatment and a clear coat for corrosion protection. The profile has been restored and the edge reset on a traditional water-cooled grinding wheel for a nice thin, hollow bevel and brought to dry-shaving sharpness. A fine blade for general mixed mowing!
