This particularly distinctive billhook is a real testament to the versatility of the tool! The exaggerated long point of the "hatchet" face allows it to handle knife-like piercing and precision cutting tasks while the hooked side has a deep bill for slashing power. The blade is distal tapered for strength in the tang and lively balance, while the upper ferrule has a tongue that allows it to be suspended from the belt when both hands need to be temporarily freed of the tool. The beech handle has flattened sides to prevent rotation in the hand, and they are flared at the base to prevent the tool from slipping during hard chopping. The unique lower ferrule prevents the compressive tension of the peened tang from forming splits.
A mighty tool able to wear many hats!
The only things wrong with this example are that the handle was installed slightly twisted at the factory, with a somewhat sloppy (though tight) fit between the handle and the ferrule.
If selecting the Special Grade option we will thin and refine the factory edge.
