Don't let the name fool you--these stones are one of the most versatile shapes around for sharpening just about anything with a cutting edge!
This "Bull Thistle" series stone is carefully formulated from premium coarse synthetic ruby grit in a medium-hard ceramic bond. Ideal for setting a toothy scratch pattern on slicing tools, performing routine bevel maintenance to refresh edges rounded over from repeated honing, and repairing minor to moderate rolled and dinged edges. Absorbs and retains water extremely well, creating a thin film on the surface when fully saturated. Cuts fast, resists loading, but remains hard enough to resist gouging and excessive wear. Made with pride in the USA!
Edge Dressing Options: As they come from the mold, these stones have a very crisp edge that can be handy if using the flats to sharpen tools like knives. However, they're also more prone to suffering from small chips if accidentally knocked into hard objects, and so we offer the option to have the edges dressed to increase their durability. If selecting the "light" option we'll put only a light filleting on the edges to toughen them up without rounding them over so much as to cause significant clearance issues sharpening the base of knife blades and the like. If selecting the "heavy" option we'll put a significant radius on the edges that helps with surface contact when using the curved edges of the stone to sharpen forward-curving blades.
